Anti-Harassment Policy
At Storm Soccer Club, we are committed to fostering a safe and inclusive environment for all members of our community, regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, ability, religion, or any other personal characteristic. We believe in the principles of equality, fairness, respect, and tolerance, and we expect all members of our organization to conduct themselves in a manner that upholds these values.
Appropriate/Inappropriate Conduct between Adults/Adolescents and Children Guidelines and Reporting Process
Storm Soccer Club acknowledges sport offers incredible experiences and opportunities for children. These experiences are integral to enhancing child development. Positive experiences are tied to healthy relationships between athletes and coaches, as well as to safe environments where adults are accountable for their actions and behaviours.
Background Screening Policy
Board and Coach Volunteers who could have contact with, or access to, children and/or vulnerable individuals in their roles, must submit a “clear” Canadian Police Information Check (CPIC), including a Vulnerable Sector Check as well as a Nova Scotian Child Abuse Registry check report prior to commencing work in services involving children.
Children and Family Services Act - Duty to Report
The Children and Family Services Act is designed to protect children from abuse and neglect. There have recently been dedicated improvements to the Act, resulting in over 80 amendments. Some of these changes have a direct impact on the Duty to Report sections, which may impact community organizations.
Confidential Information Policy
Storm Soccer Club recognizes that its volunteers may have access to confidential information that must be safeguarded to ensure the privacy and protection of individuals and the organization. This policy outlines the responsibilities of volunteers with regards to the use, disclosure, and protection of confidential information.
Equity and Inclusion Policy
Storm Soccer Club is committed to creating programming that is culturally appropriate. We believe soccer is an important tool for integration and connection between all cultures. Storm Soccer Club believes that community plays a huge part in our identity and how we see ourselves as a Club.
Reporting and Documenting Complaints: Inappropriate Conduct
At Storm Soccer Club, all children have the right to a safe and respectful environment that is free from child sexual abuse and/or inappropriate conduct. Any abusive or unlawful act committed by a volunteer will not be tolerated and will be reported to child welfare and/or law enforcement as applicable. Any employee/volunteer engaging in such acts will be subject to a range of disciplinary procedures, up to and including dismissal Similarly, volunteers who are aware of breaches of the Code of Conduct to Protect Children, but fail to take appropriate action, may be subject to discipline.
Rule of Two Policy
When a Storm Soccer Club Coach, Volunteer Coach, Assistant Coach or Manager is in a potentially vulnerable situation with any child (example - locker roomor meeting room), another Storm Soccer Club Coach, Volunteer Coach, Assistant Coach, Manager or the parent/guardian of the player(s) must be present.
